Day 1: Waterfall trail. (hiking 5-6 hrs.) We begin with a taste of local culture at the Wilderness Center, a restored farm converted into a living museum. The hiking trail begins juts outside the national parks visitor center. We hike along Arctic panoramas with snow-capped peaks and countless waterfalls along the way, where you are almost always guaranteed to see a rainbow in summer. Your luggage will be transported and waiting upon arrival in Laugarfell. The first night in Laugarfell we will enjoy a lovely welcome dinner, relax and prepare for the days ahead.

Day 2: jfadalir and Brarjkull. (hiking 5-6 hrs.) A hike into jfadalir (Valley of Thieves) is the hiking mission of the day. In our sights is Mt. Snfell (Snow Mountain) with a view towards Eyjabakkajkull glacier and also towards Kverkfjll Mountains. This area is inhabited by herds of wild reindeer unique to this corner of the country. After jfadalir hike we drive to Brarjkull glacier and take a short hike on the ice.

Day 3: Mt. Snfell - the king of Icelandic mountains. (hiking 7-8 hrs.) Mt. Snfell is Icelands highest free-standing peak and a wonderful hike with brilliant views of the vast highland moors. In the right conditions you may be able to slide down the snowy fields of the mountainside making the decent much easier. Dipping into the natural warm pools in Laugarfell after the hike is our reward for a day well spent.

Day 4: Hafrahvammar canyon. (hiking 5 hrs.) Today we enjoy a fascinating hike along the riverbed of Hafrahvammar canyon The possibility to follow along the riverbed has only been available for a few years now since the dam was built in 2008. We encounter unbelievable rock formations throughout the canyon. After the hike we stop at the hot springs in Laugavalladalur before heading back to Egilsstair were the tour ends.

Day 5: Askja volcano. (hiking 2-3 hrs.) Today we visit the famous Askja volcano. After an early breakfast we leave Laugarfell and head for Krahnkar dam before crossing Brardalir on our way to the Askja area. After our lunchbreak in a mountain hut Dreki we take a short hike into the Drekagil canyon which is a must see. Driving for 10-15 minutes and taking the 35 minute easy hike we reach Askja and the magnificent Vti crater. On our way back to Laugarfell we visit beautiful places. After dinner its nice to relax in the geothermal pools at the hostel.

After an early breakfast we depart from Laugarfell and head for Krahnkar Dam before crossing Brardalir on our way to the Askja area. After our lunchbreak in the Dreki mountain hut we enjoy a short hike into the Drekagil Canyon. Driving for 10-15 minutes we take a 35 minute easy hike to reach Askja, a series of nested calderas, and the magnificent Vti crater filled with geothermally heated water. After a hike back to Laugarfell enjoy a hearty dinner and a dip in the geothermally heated pools at the hostel.

Day 6: Hengifoss and Farewells. (hiking 2 hrs.) Our final day we bid farewell to the wonderful accommodations at Laugarfell and head towards waterfall hiking. Its time to visit Hengifoss, one of the Icelands highest and most picturesque waterfalls and also one of the most popular attractions in the Eastfjords. The easy hike to the falls is definitely worth the close up views. After 30 minutes drive we arrive in Egilsstair where our journey ends.
